The Maritime Museum of Barcelona is located in the building of Drassanes Reials de Barcelona, the former royal arsenal of Barcelona which built ships between the thirteenth century and eighteenth century.

During the time of the shipyard it was capable of housing up to 50 sailing vessels within the vaults. The Front of the building facing the sea had a sloped ramp down into the water. What is now infront of the museum is on reclaimed land.

Visiting Maritime Museum Barcelona

Views: 376. Updated: Sep 22, 2021 by: Barcelona Travel Hacks

The museum is broadly about the history of sailing from the early days with the history of the Spanish Navy since the Catholic Monarchs, in the 15th century, up to the present. Also contins several navigation instruments, weapons and paintings.

Although the museum does not compare to other maritime museums like the historic dockyards of portsmouth, it is worth the visit to see the vast vaulted roof, The royal galley and shooner Santa Eulalia.
