About Sitges Maricel Palace

Views: 206. Updated: Oct 7, 2021 by: Barcelona Travel Hacks

Built by Miquel Utrillo (who lived in Paris with Santiago Rusinol) between 1913 and 1918 to house the important art collection belonging to American millionaire industrialist and collector Charles Deering, who lived there until 1921. In 1935 it was rented by the Catalonian Generalitat as an extension of the Cau Ferrat Museum?s collections and since then it has been dedicated to artistic and cultural activities. Acquired by the Sitges Town Hall in 1954.

The palace consists of The Gold Room, the Blue Room, the Chapel Room, the Ship's Room, Terraces and the Cloister, each space with a distinctive decor. The palace as well as being a museum also serves as a cultural centre, conference and seminar space, and events venue for hire.

This is a spectacular and regal palace that has just the right amount of preservation to maintain the spaces but not making it look new and modern.

The Maricel Palace has limited opening times of Most Sundays from 10h till 14h or later in the summer months. To confirm if the palace will open to the public:

Use the link to purchase a ticket in advance and check the availability.

Call Sitges museums, phone number on website, to confirm opening.

I visited using an individual ticket which cost 5 euros for an adult. Generally you do not need to purchase a ticket in advance but it may be advisable in the summer.

Combined ticket for Maricel Palace, Maricel Museum and Cau Ferrat is 13 Euros

Top tip: There is an android app and apple app which can be found searching for Museos de Sitges. The app works as the audio guide for the palace and gives interesting history of the artefacts and museum space. Take headphones and connect to the free wifi in the museum to use the app.
