5 things to do and see in Barceloneta area.

Barceloneta is a neighbourhood that is built on land reclaimed from the sea because the medieval port of Barcelona built a breakwater, pier, dock extending out from the natural flat Barcelona coast to shelter ships in port. Over time this are grew into a fishing village being built on during the 18th Century. The neighbourhood is characterised by narrow streets with long buildings of apartments for fishermen.

The neighbourhood still retains some of the local community spirit but has suffered from modern hotels and gentrification. It is a trendy, cosmopolitan, tourist-driven neighbourhood because of its proximity to the beach. Barceloneta has the best seafood restaurants in Barcelona as well as the busy nightlife of the club zone of Port Olympic

Barceloneta beaches have seasonal beach bars "chiringuitos" that appear in the summer then disappear in the winter. There are also beach vendors that sell direct to sunbathers. The beaches in Barcelona are famous for bag theft so you can never leave your things unattended, out of reach or fall asleep on the beaches.

Barceloneta is linked to Montjuic mountain by the red cable car that flies over Port Vell. For culture Barceloneta has the Catalunya history museum inside the old dock warehouse.

Barceloneta is served by the metro yellow line Barceloneta stop or Cuitadella-Villa Olimpica stop.
