About Figueres Toy Museum

Figueres Toy museum, The toy Museum of Catalonia, Museo de juegos de Catalunya MJC, consists mostly of the personal collections of Josep Maria Joan Rosa and Pilar Casademont Sadurni resulting in the accumulation of historic toys over a period of 22 years.

The museum initially occupied most of their home on Fossos street in Figueres with exhibitions of some of the outstanding pieces in palau Guell in Barcelona in 1972 many more exhibitions followed in the 70s and 80s.

The current location of the Figueres Toy Museum is in the former hotel Paris building with the inauguration on 18th June 1982. Since then the Toy museum has continued to grow with important anonymous benefactors and the collections of Guy Selz, Alan Gass and Joan Brossa.

Due to the growth of the collections the museum needed a management foundation so the Toy Museum of Catalonia was founded in 1977 with the founders also donating toys. in 1988 the museum was fully refurbished and adapted to display and conserve the pieces.

The Figueres Toy Museum is a charming enchanting museum full of toys that I remember from childhood plus some unusual traditional Catalan toys. The museum has a whole room of a model train set that activates with a motion sensor when you enter the room.
