About Snow Shoe Hiking in Serra de Montgrony

This is a 15Km circular snow shoe hiking route from Campelles village in the Ripollès region of the Pyrenees. Campelles village is near Ribes de Freser at an altitude of 1299m in the Serra de Montgrony mountain range. This area is not a ski resort so you get to enjoy fresh natural virgin snow.

The Serra de Montgrony, Sierra de Montgrony mountain range is found between the multiple villages of Campelles, Gombren, Planolas, San Cristobal de Tosas and Castellar de n'Hug with the highest peek being Plan de Pujalts at 2056 metres. This snow shoe route route passes via La Covil summit at 2,002 metres.

The Montgrony mountain range is used as open grazing of the Pyrenees brown cow with mountain meadows on the foots slopes and forests comprising red pines, oak groves with boxwood and beech. The high mountain forests have scattered clearings of pastures with wild flowers and some peat bogs.

Visiting Snow Shoe Hiking in Serra de Montgrony

Campelles is a small town with only one bar restaurant, Cal Ras which is in front of the church and near to the townhall.

This route can be completed any time of the year but for snow, the best time is Late January to mid March.

Allow 5-8 hours to complete this route.

A MEDIUM level of fitness is required. Also sturdy and grippy hiking boots are also required as the path down off the mountain is steep and in some places slippery. Take snow shoes and Crampons if doing this route in winter. The elevation gain along this route is 750m
