Description of Vic to Ripoll

This page covers the area of Vic to Ripoll broadly following the R3 Rodalies Railway line and is geographically known as the Osona area of Catalonia.

Osona is an area in the north of Catalonia with the capital of this area being the Medieval market town of Vic. Vic is a former Roman town surrounded by plains carved by the river valley of Ter. The area of Osona straddles the Regions of Barcelona and Girona with Vic being in Barcelona and the more northern and eastern towns being in Girona.

Vic hosts a Christmas market and medieval fair in December.

Vic is surrounded by mountains with great hiking territory in the Parc Natural de les Guilleries-Savassona and Serres de Milany-Santa Magdalena & Puigsacalm-Bellmunt.

Osona is served by the R3 Rodalies line via Vic and some bus routes. Some of these hikes are only accessible via car but well worth the price of hiring a car.

Food wise, the Osona area is famous for a cold meat sausage called Fuet, a peppered and garlicked meat served in thin slices in a baguette or added to a winter stew. Butifarra is also a Catalan Sausages served hot with ali oli, a garlic mayonnaise.
