About Camí de la Ronda DAY 1 in Costa Brava

This three day walking (and swimming!) activity that traverses what I think is the most beautiful part of the GR-92, la Ronda between Palamos and Begur. The route passes via many small coves and beaches as well as the most stunning white fishing villages such as S'Alaguer, Callella de Palafrugell, llafranc, Tamariu, Aiguablava, Fornells, Sa Tuna and Aigiafreda before turning inland to finish at Begur.

This blog covers day one from Palamos to Callella de Palafrugell, a distance of 12km. Overnight accomodation can be an apartment, hotel or camping in Callella de Palafrugell.

Starting in Palamós after arriving from Barcelona via bus, the trail leaves the town via a coastal path next to the marina and Cala Margarida, a small beach in front of some whitewashed houses. The path enters a section of coastal pine forest with views of the rocky cliffs before arriving at the village of Santa Maria de la Fosca with Fosca beach. On the other side of this village the path passes via Sant Esteve Castle ruin where the trail continues around a headland to S'Alaguer beach.

S'Alaguer is a small village of about 10 houses with a cove beach. The path continues around a pine forest headland into platja del castell - castle beach. Named because there is another castle ruin or poblet iberic on the headland departing this beach. From this headland there are spectacular views down into cliffs and coves that are only accessible from the sea.

After the poblet iberic the trail enters a long section of coastal path with pine forests and stunning coves before dropping down to the nudist beach of Cala Remington. From here the trail is directly along the beach following it onto to Cala Roca Bona beach then Cala Cap de planes. Following a trail off the beach and into a pine forest around the headland the route again drops down onto El Crit beach with the trail passing through a hole in the rock formation.

At the back of El crit beach are stairs leading up into the pine forest where the GR-92 trail strays a little inland before arriving at El Golfet on the edge of Callella de Palafrugell. The path here is along the coast passing via some tunnels to reveal a gem of the white washed coastal town of Callella de Palafrugell. This town is an old fishing village with great beaches and restaurants so be sure to eat well in the evening.
