About Figueres Toy Museum

The Figueres Toy Museum, officially the Museu de Joguet de Catalunya, is one of the most charming cultural attractions in Figueres, Spain. Its origins lie in the personal collections of Josep Maria Joan Rosa and Pilar Casademont Sadurní, who spent 22 years gathering historic toys. Their passion grew into a foundation in 1977, ensuring the preservation and display of Catalonia’s toy heritage.

Early exhibitions were held in their home on Fossos Street and later at Palau Güell Barcelona in 1972, with further shows throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The museum’s permanent home was inaugurated on 18 June 1982 in the former Hotel París building in Figueres. Since then, the collection has expanded thanks to benefactors and donations from figures such as Guy Selz, Alan Gass, and Joan Brossa.

Today, the museum spans three floors with over 4,000 pieces on display. Visitors can explore turn-of-the-20th-century dolls, tin soldiers, wooden toys, mechanical games, and even early computer consoles from the 1980s and 1990s. One highlight is the spectacular Meccano Eiffel Tower, a giant construction that showcases the engineering creativity of the era. Another favourite is the model train room, which comes to life when a motion sensor detects visitors entering.

Tuesday to Friday: 10:00h to 18:30h.

Saturday: 10:00h to 19:30h.

Sunday and public holidays: 10:00h to 14:30h.

Closed: Mondays (except public holidays); 1st January, 25th and 26th December; the second half of January and first half of February.

Tickets can be purchased up to 30 minutes before closing time.

Note: 30% ticket price reduction if you show your Dalí Theatre-Museum ticket. I only paid 4.90 euros for a 7.00 euro adult ticket.

Getting to Figueres Toy Museum

Figueres is well connected by train from Barcelona and Girona, making it an easy day trip. The town has two stations: the central Figueres station served by Regional trains, and the modern Figueres‑Vilafant AVE station on the outskirts, located about a 20‑minute walk from the town centre and close to the Figueres Toy Museum.

The Regional trains depart from Barcelona‑Sants, stopping at Barcelona‑Passeig de Gràcia, Girona, and other intermediate stations before reaching Figueres. There are two types of Regional service: the MD train, which makes fewer stops and offers more comfortable carriages with tables, arriving about 20 minutes faster; and the R11 train, which stops at every station along the route and takes approximately 1 hour 50 minutes.

The AVE high‑speed trains connect Barcelona‑Sants to Figueres‑Vilafant in just 50 minutes. From there, visitors can walk to the fortress or take local transport into the town centre.
