The Costa Brava is the most beautiful stretch of coastline in Catalunya, running from the town of Blanes north of Barcelona all the way to the French border. Rugged cliffs, turquoise coves, pine‑covered headlands and whitewashed fishing villages define this dramatic region — a place that feels wild, Mediterranean and wonderfully unspoiled.

Although the Costa Brava is not accessible by train, it is well connected by the Sarfa bus network, making it easy to reach many of the best beaches and towns without a car. For those who prefer to explore independently, hiring a car opens up even more remote coves and viewpoints. However you travel, this coastline is as close to paradise as Catalunya gets.

One of the great joys of the Costa Brava is the GR‑92 coastal trail, known locally as El Camí de Ronda. This historic path winds along the cliffs and beaches from Portbou to Blanes, passing through the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà wetlands, the Montgrí Massif and the pine forests of Les Gavarres. South of Begur, the trail becomes especially beautiful, linking postcard‑perfect fishing villages such as Fornells, Tamariu, Llafranc, Calella de Palafrugell, La Fosca, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar and Blanes.

These towns offer some of the clearest water in Catalunya, with sheltered coves ideal for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking. Many also have excellent seafood restaurants, charming old towns and scenic viewpoints that make them perfect for day trips or relaxed weekend escapes.

The regional capital is Girona, with Figueres as a secondary inland hub. Both cities connect to the coast by bus, and both are worth visiting in their own right — Girona for its medieval architecture and Figueres for the Dalí Theatre‑Museum.
