The full activity lasts around six hours, starting at 09:30 at the RocRoi Activity Centre, located two kilometres south of Llavorsí. There is free parking on site, making it the easiest place to begin your day.

On arrival, the team will take you to the equipment warehouse where you’ll be issued a wetsuit, helmet and water shoes. The changing rooms at the RocRoi Centre are spacious and heated, so you can get ready comfortably before heading out. A detailed safety briefing follows, covering river behaviour, commands, and how the guide will steer the raft through the rapids.

RocRoi then transports you and the rafts to the starting point in the village of Llavorsí. On the riverbank you’ll meet your raft guide, who will run through the paddling techniques and explain how the team works together to control the raft. Once you push off into the current, the guide takes full control of the route, giving clear instructions on when to paddle, how hard, and on which side.

The descent itself takes about two hours. You don’t need to power the raft — the river’s flow does the work — but the oars help steer and stabilise the raft as you enter each rapid. The guide chooses the safest and most exciting line through the river, ensuring you hit the best waves while keeping the group secure.

At the end of the route in Rialp, RocRoi transports you back to the activity centre near Llavorsí, where you can change out of your (very wet) wetsuit and relax in the picnic area. It’s a smooth, well‑organised experience from start to finish.

Note: If you want a helmet with a GoPro mount, request it when booking — they’re limited and go quickly.

Rafting this section of the Noguera Pallaresa is not possible with a dog. The river is fast‑flowing, the rapids are powerful, and the risk of injury is simply too high for an animal to be on board.

There’s also a practical issue: inflatable rafts cannot allow paws with claws, as they could easily puncture the material. For everyone’s safety — and your dog’s comfort — this activity is strictly for humans only.

What to take with you for Aigüestortes Llavorsí to Rialp Whitewater Rafting

You don’t need any specialist gear for the Llavorsí → Rialp rafting route, but you will get completely soaked, so a little preparation makes the day far more comfortable. Wear swimwear under the wetsuit provided by RocRoi, and bring a towel for afterwards — you’ll appreciate it when you peel off the wetsuit back at the activity centre. On warm days, many groups take a quick dip in the calmer sections of the river, and the guide will point out safe places to do so.

A small waterproof bag can be useful if you want to bring water or secure a camera, although it isn’t essential because the activity starts and ends at the RocRoi Centre. When I’ve taken camera gear, I clipped the bag to the raft with a karabiner and cord, but this is optional and only worth doing if you’re comfortable managing it on the water.

All technical equipment — wetsuit, helmet, water shoes and life jacket — is provided by RocRoi, and the guides ensure everything fits correctly before you begin. Once you’re on the river, you can focus entirely on the experience while the guide handles the technical side of navigating the rapids.
