About Taga Summit from Ribes de Freser
Taga Summit can be reached as a circular 17km MEDIUM or MEDIUM-HARD mountain hike starting and ending at Ribes de Freser in the El Ripollès area of the Pyrenees mountains.
Taga is a summit at an altitude of 2035 metres altitude above sea level with Ribes de Freser being 899 metres above sea level so the total elevation gain along this route is 1157 metres which earns this route a MEDUIM-HARD classification.
From RENFE Ribes de Freser walk towards the centre of the town parallel to the river. We turn off at the end of the tree lined boulevard and start heading up entering the forest and beginning an uphill ascent.
The uphill climb for this walk takes us through cattle grazing hills and is a continuous hard uphill push via the Serrat de Conivella ridgeline to reach the summit. Once at the summit we have spectacular 360 degree panoramic views of the Spanish Pyrenees mountains from the Taga summit cross monument.
This route should only be attempted by people with a MEDIUM level of physical fitness and time management is needed to ensure arrival at the station before the last train back to Barcelona.

Visiting Taga Summit from Ribes de Freser
Allow 6-9 hours to complete the route depending on physical fitness.
TIP: Do not wear any red clothing because when I completed this route in Summer, several of the cows started to follow a red dressed hiker in a rather interested manner!
I recommend completing this route from June to August to enjoy the wild flowers in the meadows and full leafy green forests.
Hiking to Taga summit from Ribes de Freser with a Dog
The route starts in forests interspersed with mountain plains full of cattle. The trees are a mix of oaks, beeches and some pines. If you see Pines in the spring or summer then there may be poisonous Pine Processionary Caterpillars. The top half of the route is via mountain plains and rocky outcrops. The route is viable for a dog with no difficulties for your fury friend.
Where to eat in Ribes de Freser
There are many bars and restaurants in Ribes de Freser, However, about 2 minutes walk from the Renfe Train station is Bar Gusi which serves snacks and drinks all day, including some vegan hamburgers.
What to take with you for Taga Summit from Ribes de Freser
I pack for wind and rain when doing this hike because it is in the high Pyrenees mountains.
I recommend 2-3 litres of water because there is nowhere to top up water bottles along the route.
If doing this as a winter hike, I recommend crampons for added traction on any snow or ice.
