Castelldefels platja is a Hassle free beach town near to Barcelona for a relaxing day at the beach. Nice quiet spots are easy to find on the five kilometre stretch of natural beach, even in the high season. Another advantage is the accessibility, as Castelldefels is just a 40 minute bus ride from Barcelona Plaça España or a 25 minute train ride from the centre of Barcelona.

Castelldefels Platja has a vibrant night life in the Chiringuito beach bars with late opening, Live music and disco's. The town has many beach front restaurants and bars but unlike in Barcelona, Castelldefels Platja beaches do not suffer overcrowding, smoking restrictions, excessive pestering drinks vendors or thieves and pickpockets.

It is important to distinguish between castelldefels city centre and the beach area of Castelldefels, Castelldefels Platja. They can be considered two separate towns divided by a distance of about 2km. Castelldefels town is located two kilometres inland and is a mostly residential commuter town of Barcelona with few hotels.

Castelldefels Platja is the 5 kilometre beach strip with plenty of hotels a few steps away from the beach. If you want a predominantly beach based holiday with occasional visits to the main Barcelona attractions then Castelldefels Platja might be a the option for you.

The back drop of Castelldefels Platja is the Garraf natural Park mountains and the sea front only has low rise hotels of 3 or 4 floors so you get views of the mountains from the beach.

Castelldefels platja has very little in terms of services. You will find small supermarkets for water, beer, wine, snacks etc but nowhere that you could do a substantial weekly food shop but the Castelldefels platja is full of restaurants. For shopping, you will not find many clothes shops but a variety of shops that cater to the beach market for umbrellas, inflatables, balls, blankets, towels, sun cream, flip flops and anything else you might need for the beach.

Visiting Castelldefels Platja Beach near Barcelona

From Castelldefels platja you can take a 20 minute train ride to Sitges beach town for some culture and clothes shopping or go the other way into Barcelona-passeig de Grácia for some barcelona Tourism.
