Hiking in the Andorran Pyrenees Mountains

The Principality of Andorra is a small, landlocked country in the heart of the Pyrenees between Spain and France. Covering just 468 square kilometres and home to around 80,000 people, it offers some of the most dramatic high‑mountain landscapes in Europe. With deep valleys, alpine forests, glacial lakes and rugged peaks, Andorra is a paradise for hikers looking for both challenging routes and family‑friendly trails.

Although Andorra is best known for its winter ski resorts, summer transforms the country into a vast network of high‑mountain hiking routes. More than 10 million visitors arrive each year, drawn by tax‑free shopping in Andorra la Vella, the mountain villages scattered through the valleys, and the hundreds of marked trails that criss‑cross the Pyrenees. With 270 hotels, 400 restaurants and excellent road access, it’s easy to base yourself here for a weekend of exploring.

The landscape is defined by stone‑built houses, pine forests, wildflower meadows and dramatic rocky summits. In summer, the snow melts to reveal glacial cirques, turquoise alpine lakes and panoramic ridgelines — perfect terrain for hikers seeking unforgettable views and varied terrain.

Below you’ll find two of the most spectacular routes in the country: the Vall d’Incles glacial valley circuit and the Pic de Pessons high‑mountain ridge route. Together they make an ideal Andorra weekend hiking itinerary, combining lakes, forests, ridgelines and classic Pyrenean scenery.

Choose one of the cards below to explore each route in detail and find everything you need — maps, equipment, timings, difficulty, food options and how to get there.

Happy Exploring!
