Description of Andorra Pyrenees Mountain Hiking

The Principality of Andorra is a landlocked state in the Pyrenees mountain range between Spain and France. It is one of the smallest countries in the European land mass, occupying approximately 468 square kilometres and with a population of about 80,000 citizens.

Andorra is a free market economy (GDP 6 million US Dollars), not in the European Union, who's principal industries are Finance (banking), Retail (tax free shopping) and Tourism with summer and winter tourist resorts consisting of 270 hotels and 400 restaurants as well as a large shopping centre in the capital of Andorra de la Vella.

An estimated 10 million tourists visit annually, mostly for the Ski resorts which are active from late December to April due to the high pyrenees mountains normally providing good snowfall which is artificially suplemented with snow jets. The whole country is actually a series of small villages squeezed into the valleys between mountains and with hundreds of hiking trails and ski slopes it can be dificult to chose where to stay.

The Andorran landscape is made up of beutiful stone bult houses and hotels surrounded by the lower hills and pine forests of the mountain peeks that you see wherever you look in Andorra. Here you will find lush forests, alpine lakes, rocky mountain peaks, wildflower meadows and in the winter a white snow covered landscape.

On this page I have two spectacular routes in Northern Andorra. The Vall d'Incles is a medium hiking route that anyone can do and the Pic de Pessons route is a Meduim-Hard route that should only be attempted by frequent experienced hikers. A shorter easier route in the Lakes of Pessons can be done by following the last third or so of this trail then returning via the same route.

Click on one of the cards bellow to read more about each route and find all the esential information to complete the route.
