Barcelona is the capital of the Catalan autonomous region of Spain. It is a medium sized city famous for its modernism. Barcelona city has had many periods of growth culturally and in size. Notable were the 1888 World exhibition, 1929 Barcelona Universal Exposition and 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Barcelona is also home to a unique style of modernism architecture pioneered by Antionio Gaudi, Lluis Domenech i Montaner, and many more incredible designers.
In the gothic centre, Barcelona has medieval and roman city buildings and streets. There are some incredible green space parks and gardens to explore.
