About the Pailebot (Schooner) Santa Eulàlia – Historic Sailboat in Port Vell
The Schooner Santa Eulàlia is a beautifully restored three-masted sailing vessel launched in 1918 on the beach of Torrevieja. Originally named Carmen Flores, the ship underwent several transformations—motorized in 1930 and renamed Puerto de Palma, then Cala San Vicens, and finally Sayremar Uno in 1975, serving as an auxiliary vessel for underwater operations.
In 1997, the Barcelona Maritime Museum acquired the schooner at auction and restored it to its original form, renaming it Santa Eulàlia. Today, it’s a floating exhibit and a proud part of the museum’s vessel collection.
You’ll find the schooner moored in Port Vell, near the Columbus Monument, offering a unique opportunity to step aboard a piece of living maritime history.

Visiting Pailebot (Schooner) Santa Eulàlia
Stepping aboard the Pailebot Santa Eulàlia is like walking into a living chapter of maritime history. Moored gracefully in Port Vell, this 1918 schooner invites you to slow down and soak in the craftsmanship of a bygone era. The moment you cross the gangplank, the scent of sun-warmed wood and salt air sets the tone for a tactile, open-air experience unlike any museum visit.
The main deck is a symphony of rigging, polished timber, and nautical detail. You’ll find shaded benches beneath canvas awnings, thick ropes coiled with precision, and lifebuoys hanging like sentinels of the sea. The helm—an elegant wooden wheel mounted on a classic console—feels like the heart of the ship, and the brass bell inscribed “Santa Eulàlia” gleams proudly beside it, ready to ring out across the harbor.
Below deck, the hold reveals a curated exhibition space with coiled ropes, pulleys, anchors, and ship schematics that speak to the vessel’s working life. The red-painted floor and white beams create a warm, intimate atmosphere, and the natural light filtering through the hatches adds a theatrical glow to the displays. It’s a space that feels both preserved and alive.
Whether you’re a sailing enthusiast, a curious child, or simply someone drawn to the romance of the sea, the Santa Eulàlia offers a rare chance to explore a fully functional historic vessel. And with the backdrop of palm trees, classical architecture, and the shimmering Mediterranean, it’s one of the most photogenic and soul-stirring stops in the Port Vell area.

Accessibility & Visitor Guidelines
Access to the Pailebot Santa Eulàlia is via a narrow gangplank, which may be challenging for those with mobility issues. Unfortunately, the vessel is not wheelchair accessible due to its historic structure and dockside setup.
During my visit, I was allowed onboard with a small 10L museum rucksack, but larger backpacks or bulky bags may be restricted. If needed, you can store them securely in the lockers at the Barcelona Maritime Museum.
There is no bicycle anchorage directly beside the schooner, so cyclists should plan accordingly if arriving by bike.
As a courtesy to other visitors and in line with museum policy, swimwear and bikinis are not permitted onboard. Comfortable, respectful attire is recommended.
While the ship’s layout may limit access for some, those who can board will find a beautifully preserved deck and hold space filled with maritime character and charm.
