Barcelona’s tradition of rose competitions began at the Palau de Pedralbes (1929–1936) and was revived with the Barcelona International Rose Competition in 2001, now hosted annually at Parc de Cervantes.

Located in the University Zone of Barcelona along Avenida Diagonal, the park features 27 tree species, including Siberian Elms, Tipu Trees, Lime Trees, Pink Sirus, a large oak, Stone Pines, Aleppo Pines, Himalayan Cedars, South American Cypresses, Olive trees, Black Locust, Indian Bead trees, and horse chestnut.

With nearly 10,000 rose bushes representing around 2,000 species and varieties, the garden produces some 150,000 roses at the height of the season (May–July). Alongside the Jardins de Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer on Montjuïc, Parc de Cervantes is considered one of the most colourful gardens in Barcelona during spring.

Two sculptures enrich the garden: Rombes bessons (1977), a geometric work by Andreu Alfaro, and Serenity (1964), a female nude by Eulàlia Fàbregas de Sentmenat, located near the Avenida Diagonal entrance opposite the perfume garden.

The Perfume Garden showcases 235 varieties of roses selected for their fragrance, making it one of the most aromatic corners of Barcelona.

Parc de Cervantes is more than a rose garden — it’s a landscaped oasis with pergola-covered walkways, sculptures, botanical signage, and panoramic views of the Collserola hills. The garden’s layout invites slow exploration, with shaded paths, benches, and open lawns perfect for picnics or quiet reflection.

From May to July, the park bursts into colour with over 150,000 blooming roses. Visitors can stroll through geometric hedges and rose beds, admire the contemplative statue Serenity by Eulàlia Fàbregas de Sentmenat, and discover the modern sculpture Rombes bessons (1977) by Andreu Alfaro — a striking geometric work and one of the garden’s best photo spots.

The Perfume Garden features 235 aromatic rose varieties, while the insect hotel and educational signage highlight the park’s commitment to biodiversity. Palm trees, Aleppo pines, and Himalayan cedars frame the landscape, offering shade and visual contrast throughout the seasons.

Families will appreciate the two children’s playgrounds, and hikers can use the park as the starting point for the Collserola route to Sant Pere de Màrtir and the Vallvidrera Reservoir.

Picnic Tip: One of the most inviting picnic spots is the open lawn near the Homenatge a Concha Espina monument — a shaded, grassy area with views of the rose beds and nearby sculptures. It’s quiet, scenic, and ideal for relaxing with snacks, books, or a camera.

Parc de Cervantes is a public park with wide gravel paths, ideal for picnics and leisurely walks. Bicycles are welcome, with no restrictions on entry.

Access from Avenida Diagonal is via steps, while Avenida de Esplugues offers ramp access, making the park suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.

Getting to Parc De Cervantes Rose Garden

The rose garden is a short 200m walk from TMB Metro Zona Universitària on the Green (L3) line. For public transport, use a T-Casual ticket or consider the Hola Barcelona travel card for unlimited rides.

Visitors arriving by bicycle will find anchorage points outside the Avenida Diagonal entrance. The gardens are also well connected by bus routes along Diagonal, making them one of the most accessible public gardens in Barcelona.

Hiking Connection: Parc de Cervantes is the starting point for the Collserola hiking route to Sant Pere de Màrtir and the Vallvidrera Reservoir. This 7km trail passes civil war emplacements, the Sant Pere de Màrtir telecoms tower, and ridge paths with panoramic views of Barcelona before descending to the reservoir.
