About Palau Sant Jordi & Montjuïc Olympic Park
Palau Sant Jordi is a multi-use indoor arena located in the Montjuïc Olympic Park, next to the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium and the Picornell Swimming Pools. Built for the 1992 Olympics, this concert venue in Montjuïc was designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki and seats up to 16,000 people.
Palau Sant Jordi is part of the wider Montjuïc Olympic Park attractions, which also include the iconic Telefonica communications tower, often referred to as the needle tower Montjuïc landmark. This 136-meter structure leans from a three-point foundation aligned with the sun’s angle during the solstice. Its base features a brick drum and an articulated door that opens like an eye, giving access to the telecom equipment room.
The heel of the tower rests on a circular shell of white concrete clad in broken tiles known as trencadís. The tower’s design repeats the geometry of its base to support a floating segment that houses an array of antennas, making it a standout feature of the Barcelona Olympic venue walking tour.

Visiting Palau Sant Jordi & Montjuïc Olympic Park
While the interior of Palau Sant Jordi is only accessible during events, visitors can freely explore the surrounding Montjuïc Olympic Park attractions, including the iconic Telefonica communications tower, also known as the needle tower Montjuïc landmark.
This concert venue in Montjuïc regularly hosts major international artists. I’ve personally attended concerts by The Cure and Mark Knopfler in the main arena, which is one of the top Barcelona indoor arenas for concerts.
Behind the main arena is the Sant Jordi Club Barcelona, a smaller hall known for its rock concerts. I’ve seen Gary Moore, Deep Purple, and Motörhead perform here, making it a must-visit for fans of live music.
Even outside of event days, the Olympic Park offers a scenic walk through the legacy of the 1992 Olympics, with architectural highlights and open spaces ideal for photography or quiet reflection.
Accessibility & What to bring for Palau Sant Jordi & Montjuïc Olympic Park
Palau Sant Jordi is an accessible concert venue in Barcelona, offering step-free access via the entrance next to the Piscinas de Picornell. Look for the distinctive church bell suspended in a steel frame, which marks the accessible route.
The surrounding Montjuïc Olympic Park attractions are also mostly accessible, with wide open spaces and paved walkways suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. However, some areas may include gentle slopes or stairs, so visitors with reduced mobility should plan accordingly.
There are no specific dress codes or restrictions on backpacks or small bags when walking around the Olympic Park. If attending a concert or event, check the venue’s guidelines in advance. I recommend bringing a water bottle, especially during summer events, as shaded areas are limited around the needle tower Montjuïc landmark.
