The Magic Fountains or Font Màgica Montjuïc are the centre piece of a terraced public square with many fountains and waterfalls that direct the attention from Aveninda de la Reina Maria Cristina towards the Palau Nacional (MNAC) Museo Nacional d'Art Catalan at the top.
The Barcelona magic fountain is a FREE light and sound show with a choreographed water display that is pupular with tourists. Skip down to the visiting Section fir the times of the light and water shows if you're not interested in the history.
The Magic fountains are part of a seiies of structures built for the 1929 world Exhibition in Barcelona that formed a grand gateway to the Palau Nacional Exhibition hall.
The magic fountains are free to visit any time of the day or night. The fountains and water falls are not always on and do not have a fixed time table but the waterfalls of MNAC on the upper terrace are usually on in the evening.
You do not need a ticket or book in advance to see the fountains. it is a public space with no gates or barriers. Except on New years eve where the space is restricted access for the fireworks display.
Some Sunday's from 11:00g to 15:00h you may find the waterfalls and magic fountains on but of course without the lights and music.
