About Sant Pol De Mar Beach town
Sant pol de Mar is a small beach town located about one hour north of Barcelona in a natural cove between Canet de Mar and Callela. Sant Pol de mar has it's origins in fishing and the Benedictine monastery of Sant Pol de Maresme. The town is not too touristy being relatively unknown, and in my opinion, a hidden gem.
Historically, the town is an old fishing community. Indeed, some traditional fishing still occurs. On the beach after stepping of the platform are some small wooden fishing boats so you can be confident that lunch is locally sourced.
One great advantage of Santa Pol de Mar is that because of the lack of tourists and it's distance from Barcelona, the beach does not suffer from the typical problems of Barcelona's beaches such as pick pockets, bag thieves and constant interruptions from illegal alcohol vendors.
When I go to Santa Pol de Mar, I take a sun umbrella, beach towel and a bottle of water. This is the place to go if you want a chilled beach day with amazing crystal clear water Costa Brava blue water.
