About Olesa de Montserrat Fiesta De Miquelets 2024

The Musketmen Festival in Olesa de Montserrat, Fiesta de Miquelets, is a historical recreation of the various events that took place in the town of Olesa de Montserrat during the Spanish War of Succession (1705-1714).

Olesa de Montserrat was a strategic town with a castle and hospital, near the Bourbon quarter of the town of Martorell, the Esparreguera highway and halfway between Manresa, Barcelona, Igualada and Terrassa.

The Fiesta de Miquelets recreates the battles at the town of Olesa de Montserrat during the conflict, firstly by the allied army and later by the Catalan army. In Consultation with Historians and with the advice of the leading experts, the Fiesta de los Miquelets is a window into the daily life of the often isolated lodgings of the allied army within the town of Olesa. The Festival recreates two military camps and honors the soldiers who lost their lives.

the Fiesta de los Miquelets also includes a recreation of the testimony in the town of Olesa of the Council of War chaired by Antonio Desvalls y de Vergós, Marques del Poal, held in the big hall from the castle of Olesa de Montserrat on the 20th and 21st of August, 1714. The last hope to save Barcelona from the siege was attended by this council.

In 2014, the Olesa de Montserrat Miquelets Festival was declared the official holiday of the historical recreation Associació Miquelets de Catalunya, an entity devoted to recreating the eighteenth century in Catalonia. In 2015, it was proclaimed a Local Interest Holiday.
