About Parc Joan Miro

Views: 444. Updated: Sep 15, 2021 by: Barcelona Travel Hacks

Parc Joan Miro occupies four city blocks behind Las Arenas shopping centre and is named after surealist painter Joan Miro. It was formerly known as Parque del Matadero because it housed the old city slaughterhouse, most likely due to the bull ring being so near.

The modern park was inaugurated on 12th of May 1983 and was remodelled in 2006 to include an underground parking and parks and gardens maintenance centre. The side facing onto Calle Tarragona has a sculpture called Mujer y Pajaro (woman and parrot) by Joan Miro

The park is not grass but mostly sand with many palm trees, a childs play area and an enclosed dog area. There is also a basketball court and ping pong tables. On the side facing Calle Villamara there is a public library.
