About Costa Brava La Ronda Calella Palafrugell to Aiguablava DAY 2

This three day walking (and swimming!) activity that traverses what I think is the most beutiful part of the GR-92, la Ronda between palamos and Begur. The route passes via many small coves and beaches as well as the most stunning white fishing vilages such as S'Alaguer, Callella de Palafrugell, llafranc, Tamariu, Aiguablava, Fornells, Sa Tuna and Aigiafreda before turning inland to finish at Begur.

This blog covers day two from Callella de Palafrugell to Aiguablava/Fornells, a distance of 11km. Overnight accommodation can be an apartment, hotel or camping.

Starting in Callella de Palafrugell we find the emotional strength to leave paradise and pick up the GR-92 coastal trail round a headland almost immediately arriving at another whitewashed stunning town called Llafranc with its beautiful beach. Following the town beachfront around to the marina, just before the marina guard house there are steps leading up. From here the route is via the road to Sant Sebastian light house restaurant.

After the light house is a castle and poblet iberic - iberian medieval settlement remains. Sant Sebastian castle is open to the public and visits to the roof are permitted where there are fantastic views of the coastline and inland fields and mountains. Leaving the castle the path enters a pine forest and drifts inland a bit before taking a right into a trail down a river valley to Cala Padrosa. This is a beautiful small cove with a stoney beach. I recommend swimming here.

On the left side of the stoney beach (when looking at the sea) is a path leading up the rocks into a pine forest trail along the coast to another whitewashed village called Tamariu. The trail leaves this village leading inland into pine forests to get to Aiguablava. At aiguablava we find another stunning cove beach with restaurants behind.

About La Ronda coastal trail

The GR92, Gran Recorrido 92, also known as La Ronda is a coastal path that runs along the Mediterranean coast of Spain. The section down the coast of Catalonia is 583Km long.

On the Costa Brava, it starts at Portbou, goes around Cap de Creus, through the Aiguamolls de l'Emporda Natural Park, over the Montgri Massif and Les Gavarres Massif, until reaching Lloret de Mar. From there the trail goes up through Montnegre-El Corredor Natural Park towards Santa Coloma de Gramenet, and crosses the River Besos and Collserola Mountains.

It dips back down to the sea at Garraf County and continues along the coast until Tarragona, before going inland again at Ampolla. Finally, it crosses the River Ebre at Amposta and continues until reaching Ulldecona, on the border between Catalonia and Valencia.

Getting To Costa Brava La Ronda Calella Palafrugell to Aiguablava DAY 2

The North of the Costa Brava is not served by a rail line so the best way to get to these remote fishing vilages is via bus.

SarfaBus-Moventis operate route 100 which covers some of the towns along this section of the coast.

Doing this as a three day trip means that it is viable to get the bus.

Day 1: Get bus to Palamos and walk to Callella de Palafrugell or LLafranc staying overnight.

Day 2: Walk from Callella de Palafrugell or LLafranc to Aiguablava or Fornells staying overnight.

Day 3: Walk from Aiguablava or Fornells to Begur getting bus back to Barcelona.

Note: The times on my bus route map are valid on the day that I did this trip and SarfaBus-Moventis may change times depending on demand. Use the below link to consult times and prices. Outbound journey on day one is from Barcelona-Estacio Nord to Palamos-Sarfa. The return bus stop in Begur is Begur-Plaza Forgas to Barcelona-Estacio Nord.

Barcelona-Estacio Nord is the main bus terminal near Arc de Trimfo. See the publi transport guide Estacio Nord tab for more information.
