About Barcelona Christmas lights tours
The Barcelona Christmas Lights 2025 officially switch on at 18:30h on Tuesday, 22nd November, with a ceremony on Passeig de Gràcia. This year, the city adds 6km of new lighting, bringing the total to 110km of illuminated streets — a glowing network of boulevards, plazas, and pedestrian zones that sparkle nightly until January 6th, following the Three Kings Parade.
Whether you're walking, cycling, or joining a Barcelona Christmas Lights bus tour, this guide helps you find the most enchanting displays across the city.
The Barcelona Christmas lights run from the last Thursday in November to the evening of January 6th, the day after the Three Kings (three wise med) float parade (Reyes).
Passeig de Gracía
Barcelona’s most glamorous boulevard is a must-see. High-end boutiques and luxury hotels compete in festive flair, while Casa Batlló dazzles with a multicoloured light show that shifts between blue, purple, and red. Nearby, Hotel Majestic, Casa Fuster, and Monument Hotel add their own sparkle to the scene.
Plaça Catalunya
At the heart of the city, Plaça Catalunya offers oversized light murals on the Corte Inglés façade and a central tent with music and seasonal displays. It’s a great starting point for exploring nearby illuminated streets.
Historically Plaça Catalunya used to be the location for the artificial ice skating ring but this has since moved to the Port Vell Christmas Fair.
Gothic Quarter
Wander through the Gothic Quarter for a more intimate experience. Portal d’Angel is lined with lights and leads to Avenida de la Catedral and the Santa Llúcia Christmas Market. Don’t miss Plaça Sant Jaume, where a 20-pointed star installation by Xevi Bayona and Àlex Posada glows every 30 minutes, symbolizing the birth of the universe.
I must also mention Santa Maria del Pi Basilica which has some beautiful and modest Christmas decorations inside.
Sagrada Família Area
In the Eixample district, the Hospital de Sant Pau transforms into a glowing garden of light. Walk down Avenida Gaudí to reach the Sagrada Família, where the Christmas market and surrounding streets are beautifully lit.

Note: In Plaça Sant Jaume, the iconic 20-pointed Christmas star by Xevi Bayona and Àlex Posada lights up nightly from 18:30h to midnight, cycling through a mesmerizing routine every 30 minutes. While it’s designed to illuminate the façades of the Ajuntament de Barcelona and Palau de la Generalitat, the effect is more subtle than dramatic — but still worth a visit for its artistic symbolism. A beautifully lit Christmas tree also stands in the corner of the square, adding a traditional touch to the modern installation.
La Rambla
La Rambla, Barcelona’s most iconic promenade, is typically a festive favorite for Christmas lights. However, due to ongoing renovations to transform it into a fully pedestrianized boulevard, the 2025 display is more subdued than usual. While it remains a lively street for shopping and strolling, this year it may not deliver the same visual impact — consider prioritizing other illuminated areas like Passeig de Gràcia or the Gothic Quarter for a more dazzling experience.
Accessibility and What to Bring
Wear comfortable shoes and a warm jacket. A small crossbody bag is ideal for hands-free exploring, and don’t forget your camera — the lights are truly photogenic.
