The Fiesta Major de Sants returns in late August 2026 with decorated streets, indie and rock concerts, community meals and the traditional correfoc in the Sants neighbourhood
About Fiesta Major de Sants
The Fiesta Major de Sants is one of Barcelona’s most authentic neighbourhood festivals, celebrated every year at the end of August. While the nearby Fiesta Major de Gràcia is famous for its artistic street decorations, the Sants festival has a more local, alternative atmosphere with a strong focus on indie, punk, metal, euro pop and classic rock concerts across multiple open‑air stages.
History of the Sants Neighbourhood and Its Fiesta Major
Sants was historically an industrial town known for its textile factories, including Vapor Vell and Espanya Industrial. During the late 19th century, the expansion of the Eixample neighbourhoods connected Sants to Barcelona, and it was eventually annexed into the city.
The Fiesta Major de Sants preserves strong community traditions. Local associations decorate streets and squares with themed installations, often inspired by Catalan folklore such as gegants, castellers and diables. The festival programme includes communal meals, children’s workshops, craft fairs and a wide range of concerts — with a noticeably more alternative and rock‑oriented lineup than other Barcelona neighbourhood fiestas.
The festival honours Saint Bartholomew (24 August), the patron saint of Sants. Historical references date back to the mid‑19th century, when dances such as the Serrallonga and bastons were performed, along with the traditional Sant Bartolomé dance featuring Roman soldiers, angels and a demon.

Visiting Fiesta Major de Sants
During the daytime, the Fiesta Major de Sants offers a relaxed, family‑friendly atmosphere with children’s workshops, puppet shows, comedy performances and quieter live music. Neighbours gather for large communal lunches featuring paella cooked in giant pans, grilled meats and vegetables, cava and local wine.
At night, Sants becomes one of Barcelona’s most energetic summer street festivals. Multiple stages host indie bands, punk groups, metal acts and classic rock tributes, giving the event a distinctly alternative identity compared to other neighbourhood fiestas. Open‑air bars and DJ sets keep the party going until the early hours.
