About Three Kings Gran Via Christmas Market

Spanish Tradition is that Christmas is celebrated with family gatherings on 24th December in the evening, a Christmas day lunch and boxing day lunch (25th & 26th December). Gifts are given on the evening 5th of January because this is the day that the three wise men, Known as kings, arrived to give gifts to the baby Jesus. The 6th of January in Spain is a national holiday known as Reyes (Kings).

The Three Kings and Christmas Artisan Market on Gran Via, Feria de Reyes de la Gran Vía, comprises about 140 to 200 market stalls of artisan products, popular toys and sweets.

This market is notable for the many street food vendors of traditional churro's. A Churro (Xurro in Catalan) is a type of fried dough that is served with Cinnamon sugar and dipped in hot chocolate drink and popular during the winter. Xurrerias are the street vendor stalls.

The first Christmas market in Gran Via was held in 1877 and comprised of 18 stalls. It has since grown in size and popularity.

The Christmas market in front of Barcelona Cathedral, called Feria de Santa Llucia sells Christmas decorations whereas this market is more focused towards gifts.
