The Magic Fountains or Font Màgica Montjuïc are the centre piece of a terraced public square with many fountains and waterfalls that direct the attention from Aveninda de la Reina Maria Cristina towards the Palau Nacional (MNAC) Museo Nacional d'Art Catalan at the top.
The Barcelona magic fountain is a FREE light and sound show with a choreographed water display that is pupular with tourists. Skip down to the visiting Section fir the times of the light and water shows if you're not interested in the history.
Montjuïc Magic Fountain History
The Magic fountains are part of a seiies of structures built for the 1929 world Exhibition in Barcelona that formed a grand gateway to the Palau Nacional Exhibition hall.
- Magic Fountain: A large Fountain in Plaça Carles Buïgas i Sans and Plaça Josep Puig i Cadafalch that was remodelled for the 1992 Olympics.
- Venetian Towers: are a pair of towers built to look like the towers in saint Marks Square(Venice). They mark the entrance to Aveninda de la Reina Maria Cristina. The towers are 47m high with a 7.2 metres square cross-section and have been refurbished multiple times. They stand today as monuments in Plaza España. They are not open to the public, However the council does hold open days once a year for visits inside.
- La Fira 1, Montjuic: Are the buildings along Aveninda de la Reina Maria Cristina which are large exhibition halls that were built for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. They consists of seven large buildings, each containing exhibition halls. La Fira 1 has a total of 153,000 square metres of floor space.
