The Funicular line was opened in 1928 in order to serve the International Exhibition of 1929. Until around 1970, the funicular included a second upper stage, linking the current upper station in avenida Miramar with Montjuic Castle. This upper stage is now served by the Montjuic Cable Car (Teleferico de Montjuic).

Visiting Montjuic Funicular and Cable Car

The funicular de Montjuic , a cable railway that runs from metro Parallelo (Green L3 and Purple L2) to halfway up the mountain at Aveninda Miramar in Monjuic is part of the TMB network so use a T-casual or Hola BCN ticket. Operating hours can be found on the TMB website.

The teleferico Montjuic cable car is not part of the TMB network so a separate ticket must be purchased online or in the ticket office before boarding.

Funicular de Montjuic Autumn-winter:

Monday to Friday: 07:30h to 20:00h. Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: 09:00h to 20:00h

Funicular de Montjuic Spring-summer:

Monday to Friday: 07:30h to 10:00h, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: 09:00h to 22:00h


The Montjuic teleferico:

Monday to Sunday: from 10:00h to 20:00h.

Getting To Montjuic Funicular and Cable Car

The Funicular de Montjuic is linked to the metro network at TMB Metro Parallelo station. (Green L3 and Purple L2)

Transfer from the funicular onto the cable car at the funicular upper station at Mirimar avenue.
