The Barcelona Port Cable car, known as Transbordador aeri del port is a 1.3km cable car that links Barceloneta beach near Hotel W to Montjuïc Plaza Miramar in front of the Miramar hotel and viewpoint in Montjuïc.
The cable car flies over the port and Maremagnum shopping complex with a central support tower landing in the world trade centre at the cruise ship berths.
The Barcelona Port cable car was the first cable car to be constructed in Montjuic and was designed for the 1929 world exhibition but not completed until 1931.
During the Spanish Civil War (1936 to 1939), the cable car was closed, the cables removed and the towers became watch towers for the defence of the port of Barcelona.
In 1958 the Company Telefericos de Barcelona took over ownership and on May 20th 1963 started operating the new cable car which ran uninterrupted till 1995 when a two year refurbishment of the two towers was performed.
The Montjuïc Port Cable has two cabins (19 person capacity per cabin) which are suspended from the static cable. The cars are pulled along by the running cable with the cabins passing each other in the middle near to the Sant Jaume Tower each cycle of operation. The motor is located in the Miramar station and is directly anchored into Montjuïc mountain, 56 meters above sea level.

Tip: The Landing San Sebastian landing station in Barceloneta has long queues sometimes so take the cable car in the other direction from Plaza Miramar.
The cable car is bi-directional and one way or return fares are available.
The San Sebastian tower in Barceloneta has a lift for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
Bicycles and large bags or suitcases would not be permitted.
Address: Plaza Miramar S/N, Barcelona. 08038

Note: This is not the same as the Montjuic Cable Car which goes up to Montjuïc castle. This cable car goes over the port of Barcelona to Barceloneta and is distinguished by the red cabins.
