About Port Olympic Marina, Hotel Arts and Tore Mapfre

Port Olímpic Marina was built in 1990 as one of many extensive redevelopments throughout Barcelona in preparation for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. The port was used to host the sailing competitions of the Olympics. It sits between the beaches of Barceloneta and the beaches of poble Nou.

Port Olímpic was designed by the architects Oriol Bohigas, Josep Martorell, David Mackay and Albert Puigdomènech and today has 756 berths for yachts. The two skyscrapers on either side are the Torre Mapfre and the Hotel Arts, with Frank Gehry's Goldfish Sculpture nearby as well as the Gran Casino de Barcelona.

Before the Covid Pandemic the Olympic port was a thriving nightclub zone with bars open all night, and a reputation for being a bit seedy. This all ended during the pandemic and the nightclubs are now gone with the port deciding to take a new direction for its commercial use.

The port is still a private marina and has some sailing clubs and restaurants inside. From the port there are views of hotel Arts and Torre Mapfre as well as sea views from the breakwater. Short of a running circuit along the breakwater or to take sailing classes there is little to do and see in this part of Barcelona.
