Tamarita Gardens – Romantic Hidden Gem in Barcelona
Tranquil romantic garden in Sant Gervasi. Marble statues, fountains & shaded paths. Perfect for Sant Jordi, Valentine’s, or peaceful escapes
About Tamarita Gardens
Jardines de la Tamarita, also known as Tamarita Gardens, is a romantic garden in Barcelona tucked away in the Sant Gervasi district. Originally part of an estate owned by the Craywinkel family, the land was acquired in the early 20th century by Llorenç Mata i Pons, a wealthy cotton merchant and industrialist.
After being abandoned following the Spanish Civil War, the gardens and manor house became city property in 1993. They were restored and opened to the public in 1995, transforming into one of the most tranquil gardens in Barcelona and a true hidden gem for locals and visitors alike.
With shaded paths, marble statues, and quiet corners, Tamarita Gardens offers an intimate setting for peaceful strolls and reflection — especially popular during Saint Valentine’s Day and Sant Jordi, Catalonia’s celebration of love and literature. Whether you're gifting a rose and book or planning a romantic picnic, Tamarita is one of the best parks in Barcelona for couples.
Like Parc del Laberint d’Horta, Tamarita Gardens is a Barcelona hidden gem offering a peaceful escape from the city — perfect for reading by a fountain, strolling among sculptures, or enjoying the shade of century-old trees.

Visiting Tamarita Gardens
At the heart of Tamarita Gardens stands the former manor house of Llorenç Mata, now home to the Blanquerna building of Universitat Ramon Llull. While the building is not open to the public, its elegant façade can be admired from the garden paths.
The gardens are divided into two distinct levels: the lower garden features ponds, fountains, and marble sculptures, while the upper garden, accessible via Carrer de Cister, offers shaded walkways and secluded benches. This layout makes it one of the best gardens in Barcelona for quiet reflection and romantic strolls.
Visitors will find ping pong tables in the playground area, but ball games are not permitted in the landscaped zones. Entry with bicycles may be restricted to preserve the peaceful atmosphere.
Tamarita Gardens opening hours

Accessibility & What to bring to Tamarita Gardens
Bicycle access may be restricted to preserve the peaceful atmosphere of the gardens. While ping pong tables are available in the designated playground area, football and other ball games are not permitted in the landscaped zones.
Tamarita Gardens is laid out across two levels, connected by stairs and a few ramps. Visitors with limited mobility or those avoiding steps can access the upper garden directly via the Carrer de Cister entrance.
