Historic mountaintop amusement park with vintage and modern rides, stunning views, and funicular access
About Tibidabo Amusement Park
Parc d'Atraccions Tibidabo is Barcelona’s mountaintop amusement park, perched 512 meters above sea level on the summit of Mount Tibidabo in the Collserola mountain range. With sweeping views of the city and coastline, it’s one of the most scenic and historic amusement parks in Europe.
Opened in 1905, Tibidabo is Spain’s oldest operating amusement park and the third-oldest in Europe. It was founded by Dr. Salvador Andreu i Grau, a visionary entrepreneur who also helped develop the Tram Blau and Tibidabo Funicular to connect the city to the summit.
The park blends vintage fairground rides with modern attractions, offering over 25 experiences for all ages. Highlights include the iconic Red Airplane ride, a replica of the first aircraft to fly from Barcelona to Madrid, and the Ferris Wheel, which offers panoramic views of the city skyline.
Today, Tibidabo is owned and operated by the Barcelona City Council and continues to evolve while preserving its nostalgic charm. It’s a favorite destination for families, couples, and anyone looking to combine thrills with breathtaking scenery.
History of Tibidabo Amusement Park
Tibidabo Amusement Park opened in 1905, making it the oldest operating amusement park in Spain and the third-oldest in Europe. It was founded by Dr. Salvador Andreu i Grau, a pharmacist and entrepreneur who envisioned a mountaintop retreat for leisure and science.
Construction began in 1900 with the Tibidabo Funicular and Tram Blau, providing access to the summit. Early attractions included telescopes, swings, shooting galleries, and balloon rides. By the 1910s, the park expanded with restaurants, hotels, and mechanical rides — many of which are still in use today.
Notably, Tibidabo was not the first amusement site in the area. The Rabasada Casino, opened in 1899, was the original playground of Barcelona’s elite — now abandoned and steeped in mystery.
