Tibidabo Amusement Park History

On 16 June 1900 work began on creating access to the top of Tibidabo with the construction of Tibidabo funicular railway and Tram. At the same time, at the top of the mountain, work continued with the landscaping and construction of buildings and terraces. On 29 October 1901, the new Tibidabo Funicular opened.

The first decade saw the introduction of small attractions such as telescopes and binoculars, swings, the Flobert shooting gallery, bowling, mirrors, automatons, the carrier pigeon station, along with events of all kinds: including Clave choirs, military bands, orchestras and balloon rides.

Tibidabo began to grow in popularity and the second decade saw the opening of new buildings such as the Gran Cafe Restaurant Tibidabo (known today as El Club dels Aventurers) and the Hotel Restaurant Coll (known today as the Gran Hotel La Florida).

Interestingly, The Amusement park in Tibidabo was not the first site for a playground and amusement park, The Rabasada Casino complex that was inaugurated in 1899 is the original Tibidabo attractions park. This place has a dark history and it is worth reading about once the kids have gone to bed!
