About Sacred Heart Of Jesus Temple Tibidabo:

Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This is actually two churches in one. The ground floor is older, building started 1902 by architect Enric Sagnier. The upper church completed in 1961 was finished by the son of Enric Sagnier, Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal.

The idea for a church on the summit of Mount tibidabo dates from the late 19th century. In 1886 a neo-gothic hermatige was built and two years later for the universal exhibition the valvidrera road was urbanised. The project of building a full church suffered a setback because there were plans to build an observatory on the summit. The observatory eventually got built lower down the mountain (Fabra Observatory)

The fisrst stone was laid on the 28th of December 1902 with the crypt being built between 1903 and 1911. (this is the older looking lower part of the church) The main church was built between 1915 and 1951 being consecrated by Bishop Gregorio Modrego in 1952. The towers were completed afterwards with works ending in 1961.
